BSI (British Standards Institution)
At BSI I worked on privately commissioned standardization documents. The role required writing, editing and project management ability, and centred around the creation of specification documents for review and input from a panel of technical experts.
This required the ability to rapidly assimilate information on a completely new subject and produce a rigorous document, written logically, unambiguously and verifiably.
A highlight of this role was my production of the first European standard for nanotechnology: a vocabulary for nanoparticles (PAS 71). For this I needed to crank up my knowledge of nanotech (that's very very very small things) from "hovering above zero" to "world-class" (or thereabouts) in a couple of months.
